By becoming an egg donor you can help childless families to become happy parents

Sometimes, in order to become a mother, it is not enough for a woman to undergo traditional treatments. Egg health problems are not so uncommon. The lack of oocytes (eggs) suitable for fertilization is a common problem of modern women and the causes of it are not only menopause, but also hereditary and genetic diseases and various pathologies of the reproductive organs. Then ART comes to the rescue — Assisted Reproductive Technologies, including pregnancy conception with the help of healthy donor eggs. Donor oocytes can be used for both IVF infertility treatment and surrogate programs.

Our center is interested in finding Oocyte Donors.

Information about the identity of the anonymous donor is confidential. At the same time, the donor does not receive information about the patients for whom the oocytes are intended. After a specific donor is chosen, she undergoes a complete medical and genetic examination, during which it is determined whether she meets all the necessary requirements for an Oocyte Donor. The donor signs an informed consent form, which states that the oocytes and embryos obtained from them will be the property of the patients.

Stages of an oocyte donation program

Step 1

If a couple is interested by the donor’s questionnaire, the Center Manager will contact the donor by phone and invite them to the Clinic to join the program.

Step 2

The donor undergoes all the necessary examinations at the expense of the Clinic. The donor never meets the interested couple.

Step 3

The doctor synchronizes the menstrual cycles of the donor and prospective parent (or Surrogate Mother) using hormonal drugs.

Step 4

The donor additionally undergoes ovulation stimulation (to increase the number of eggs) with the help of drugs, while the doctor prepares the recipient’s endometrium for implanting a fertilized egg with estradiol and progesterone preparations.

Step 5

The final stage: with the help of a puncture, eggs are extracted from the donor, which are fertilized with the prepared sperm of the parent’s spouse (or sperm door) n laboratory conditions. At this stage, donor participation ends.

Step 6

After a few days, the embryo (or two) is transferred to a woman who wants to become a mother or a Surrogate Mother (the remaining embryos are frozen).

Answers to frequently asked questions about oocyte donation

Who can become a donor and how?

A woman who is 20-35 years old and who wants to help infertile couples by participating in an egg donation program. The donor must be of normal constitution (not overweight), have healthy children of her own, not a smoker and not suffering from gynecological or other diseases. The donor undergoes a full examination for the presence of such diseases as HIV, syphilis, hepatitis B and C, gonorrhea, chlamydia, mycoplasmosis, ureaplasmosis, cytomegalovirus, and genital herpes. In addition, the donor is examined by a doctor and interviewed by a psychologist.

How long should there be between egg donations?

In theory, eggs could be donated every menstrual cycle (every month), but we leave at least two months between donation cycles to rest the donor’s ovaries.

Will I have an early menopause after I donate my eggs?

A 12-year-old girl has about 300,000 eggs in her ovaries. During the childbearing years, the ovaries consume less than 500 of them during ovulation. The remaining 299,500 eggs undergo a process called atresia, in which they are absorbed by the ovaries between puberty and menopause. Due to the presence of a large number of these «spare» eggs, there is no reason to believe that taking medication during the donation process, or egg donation itself, can reduce egg storage to the point of leading to early menopause.

How many times can you donate eggs as a donor?

In Russia, there are no guidelines from the Ministry of Health on this issue, since egg donation has no long-term side effects. In our practice, we adhere to the rule that a donor can donate her eggs a maximum of six times.

How is my anonymity maintained?

All information about donor programs is strictly confidential. The couple receiving your eggs sign a statement that they undertake not to identify the egg donor and understand that further communication between them or their children with you is impossible. They won’t know your name. But they will be given general information regarding your weight, height, appearance, ethnicity and family history.
